How do we find balance?

Updated: Nov 6, 2021

I hope I am not alone when I say that I am struggling to find balance in my life now that the world has gone “back to normal”.

I have been more or less absent from social media since lockdown has lifted and I have started working full time. Social media became a hobby and an outlet for me during the pandemic and it has been difficult not having the time to use it in this way. Likewise, I built such an amazing community on social media, and I hate that I have not been able to connect with everyone as much as I previously had done.

The truth is, I have been so exhausted that I haven’t been doing anything (aside from work). I do not have the energy to socialise or exercise, which was previously another hobby of mine. I am not sure how I am going to do it, but I really need to find some balance in my life again. I was able to juggle all of my hobbies alongside my studies and work before the pandemic, so I must be able to do it again?

If I am being honest with myself, I think the answer is that I need discipline. I need to discipline myself in order to create a routine which allows me to undertake my hobbies and exercise around my work. No matter how important your studies or work, it is just as important to undertake your hobbies and find a routine that ensures you have some down time. Not allowing this time for yourself is what leads to burnout and/ negative feelings which I certainly have plenty of at the moment!

So, if you are feeling the same as I am lets be disciplined together and build a routine which allows us to undertake our hobbies and look after ourselves.

This is my plan of action:

1. Get up earlier to allow myself more time in the day. This will ensure that I can fit in more time for myself around my work.

2. Eat healthy and drink plenty of water so that I am more energised throughout the day to do more in my day.

3. Spend one hour at the gym, at least 4 days a week. This hobby keeps me healthy and helps me to de-stress after a hard day. I was going to start powerlifting before the pandemic and I would like to continue to work towards that!

4. Stop feeling pressure about what to post on social media. Just continue to use it as an outlet no matter what other people opinions are. This will ensure that this hobby continues to have a positive impact on me (as it did during the pandemic).

If you want to find balance to, start with your own action plan and then be disciplined with yourself. We can keep each other accountable!

Until next time,
